Favorite Place

One of my favorite places is a small park in my hometown. It has a great balance of trees and open space that makes it a great place to hold events or hang out. I love that it is frequented by a wide range of community members, including children on the playground or old people practicing tai-chi. I have many memories of hanging out there and talking at night with friends.

What was your first interaction with a school-community project and the impact it had on you?

Last year, I worked with a school program to tutor pre-k children in a low resource LA neighborhood. It was great to see the fruits of my labor have a direct impact, and I enjoyed seeing the kids’ growth through the year. Being able to interact and get to know people from all walks of life is part of what motivates me to develop as an agent of social change.

How did you first learn about EPIC-N?

I learned about EPIC-N through my internship with the EPA!

What are some of the top priorities you are working on this year?

This year, through working in real-world projects, I’m aiming to refine my approach in addressing environmental challenges through a sociological and policy lens, learning to better navigate barriers such as time, budget, and the general unexpected. Also looking forward to expanding my knowledge on sustainable urban planning, environmental justice, and resilience while working alongside EPA Office of Research and Development reviewing and analyzing the EPIC-N Project Database.

In what ways are you looking to engage, or work with others, either from within the EPIC-Network, or in general?

I think that many of the spaces I’m in are full of amazing people, so I am excited to engage with them and learn more about them and their projects. I am excited to grow together and to collaborate to make a positive direct impact.
